Amazon is working on a connected fridge that does groceries when it’s soon empty

Amazon is currently working on a connected fridge capable of ordering groceries when it is soon empty. Using technology similar to that of Amazon Go supermarkets, the device will be able to identify leftover foods as well as their expiration date. Unfortunately, this connected appliance is likely to be particularly expensive.

Amazon continues toexpand its range of connected objects. Recently, the e-commerce giant has also unveiled Astro, its first domestic robot capable of monitoring the homes of users in their absence, or the Echo Show 15, a new connected screen.

According to Insider information, Amazon does not intend to stop there. The firm has been developing for two years a connected fridge capable of determining when it is soon empty. The refrigerator apparently knows which foods are still available and which products are approaching the expiration date. On the basis of this information, the machine will automatically order the food that will be missing.

To develop this connected fridge, Amazon is based on detection technology already operated in Amazon Go cashless stores. On the shelves of these supermarkets, smart pressure-sensitive cameras automatically detect what shoppers slip into their shopping carts.

Mentioned under the name Project Pulse internally, Amazon’s connected fridge will go even further by automatically predicting, based on your habits, what you want to order. If you regularly order eggs or milk, and these items will soon run out, an order will ensure that these items are delivered on time. Not surprisingly, these orders will be placed throughAmazon Fresh, Amazon’s grocery delivery service.

Even more surprisingly, the fridge will analyze its contents to determine which foods should be cooked first according to their expiration date. If a bluefin tuna fillet is about to expire, the user will receive an alert accompanied by a series of preparation and nutrition tips. Amazon’s fridge will be priced high, according to the report. The brand still hopes to attract households that have already subscribed to an Amazon Prime subscription.
