Android 12L: Google plans 3 beta before launch in 2022, here are the eligible smartphones
The launch of Android 12L is not expected until next year, but Google has already revealed the list of smartphones compatible with the beta version. Several beta will be rolled out before the rollout for everyone in the first quarter of 2022.
Google unveiled last week the arrival of a new one-off version of Android 12, named Android 12L. This is originally intended for tablets and folding smartphones, but it will initially be available in beta for all compatible Pixel smartphones.
As a reminder, Android 12L aims to correct Android 12 problems on devices with larger screens, including tablets and folding smartphones. The update notably introduces a new taskbar at the bottom of the interface and allowsdisplay menus and applications on both sides of the screen to take advantage of all available space. Apps should also look better thanks to new compatibility modes, whatever the size of the screen.
What are the first compatible Pixel smartphones?
According to Google, several Pixel smartphones will be eligible for beta, although neither is a foldable device. Here is the full list:
Unsurprisingly, we do not find the Pixel 3 and 3 XL since we announced yesterday that they had reached the end of their life. They will therefore only receiveone last update in 2022 before Google abandons them for good.
According to Google’s deployment schedule for Android 12L, smartphones should receive the first beta in December. A second beta will then be available in January, then a third in February. Finally, Google does not specify the exact date of the deployment of the final version of Android 12L, but announces thatit will arrive in the first quarter of 2022. We can therefore expect to see it arrive before the end of March.
This will be available on most compatible folding tablets and smartphones. You can already go and see the list of Samsung devices that should be eligible for the update.
