Google has just announced without warning the release of the first version of Android 13 for developers. The news was posted on Twitter and for the occasion, the manufacturer also detailed in a long blog post what can be expected from this version reserved for professionals.
First, the Mountain View firm recalls that privacy and security will be at the heart of the Android 13 experience, as well as productivity (for developers anyway). Still on the security side, this version of the OS notably includes a photo picker which will allow “securely share photos and videos with apps” as well as a new Wi-Fi permission. The goal is to deter app developers from constantly requesting access to GPS location.
“This new permission will be required for apps that use many commonly used Wi-Fi APIs and allows apps to discover and connect to nearby Wi-Fi devices without needing location permission.” explains Google.

On the interface and display side, Google intends to extend the principle of dynamic colors from Material You, the new design of Android 12, on the icons of all applications (and not only those of Google apps). In other words, the colors of the icons will be able to adapt to the color of your screen background.
Add to that improvements in shader programming, updates for OpenJKD11, OS optimization on tablets, foldable devices and Chromebooks, or even more ease for developers to test their API and debugging changes.
Of course, most of these new features will only be of interest to developersbut they nevertheless provide a quick glimpse of the features that await the general public on Android 13. As Google has clarified, a second version of the OS for developers will be deployed in March 2022. As for the deployment of the final version of Android 13, or Tiramisu by its nickname, it will take at least the end of the summer period.
