Android 14 will finally allow you to adjust ringtone and notification volumes separately

Users of the latest Android 14 Developer Preview noticed a long-awaited novelty. This allows you to separately adjust the volumes of the ringtone of the telephone and that of the notifications. A feature currently present on only a few smartphones and that Google could definitely bring to its operating system.

There are two types of smartphone users: those who only judge by the vibrator, and others who like to hear their device ring with every notification. Of course, this categorization is deliberately very approximate, since certain nuances must be taken into account. For example, among sound enthusiasts, not everyone gives the same importance to each alert sent by their phone.

However, for a time, the Google Pixel allowed, precisely, to adjust the volume for each category, thus making it possible to give more voice to the ringing of the telephone, or conversely to the notifications. But the Mountain View company then withdrew this feature, without further explanation despite user challenges. Fortunately, everything should change with Android 14.

Android 14 will give more control over adjusting volumes

Indeed, several users have spotted in the second Developer Preview of Android 14 the possibility of separately adjusting the volumes of telephone ringtones and various notifications. Until now, the operating system considers the ringtone as a notification like any other, making it impossible to lower or increase the volume of it.

In a screenshot shared by Mishaal Rahman on Twitter, there are two different sliders for the two volumes. If the smartphone is placed in vibrate mode, both volumes become inactive. The journalist also recalls that the feature first appeared during the QPR 2 beta of Android 13, although a flag had to be activated beforehand to take advantage of it.

We therefore hope that it will one day find its way to the general public with Android 14. Users have been asking for several years now to obtain more control over their volumes, and it could be that Google has finally heard their requests.
