Android TV: Google is finally adding personalized profiles to your televisions

by mobailee March 14, 2023 8

After years of waiting, Google is adding a much-requested feature to Android TV users: Profiles. It will thus be possible to have your own personalized playlist on the interface.

While Google TV already offers users the ability to create profiles on their televisions, Android TV has so far not received the same treatment. This was without counting a recent update, which finally brings the functionality to all users of televisions equipped with Android TV.

A few days ago, your TV probably asked you to choose the main account for your TV. It is simply because he is now possible to create several different profiles. On the Android TV interfaceyou should see a new small image at the top right with your profile picture, right next to the settings.

Google adds profiles to Android TV

By clicking on your image, your TV will ask you to choose the main account for your TV. You will find on the right the list of accounts already associated, but also two other buttons allowing you to add an account or delete accounts. Note that it is also possible to use your TV without selecting a main account, but this will require deleting all accounts from the device.

Unlike Google TV, Android TV does not currently allow simply switching users with a dedicated switch. For now, you’ll need to change the device’s primary account.

This new feature is practical for quickly accessing your own recommendations or playlists, or if you frequently use applications such as YouTube. By opening the video platform, you have access to the recommended videos on your account, but other people in your household will now be able to quickly access their own profile.

Google seems to be rapidly rolling out this update for TVs from TCL, Hisense, Sony, and other manufacturers, but we do not know for the moment if this feature is available on the Nvidia Shield TV. It remains to be seen whether or not all users have already received the update with the personalized profiles. Do not hesitate to tell us in the comments if your TV has already received the new version.
