Apple admits, using a MacBook as a gaming machine is not for now

by mobailee February 8, 2023 26

The MacBook Pro M2 Pro and M2 Max are certainly very good computers, but these machines are still not recommended for gaming. It’s a shame for the gaming community… and for Apple.

Whether or not we like the products of the apple brand, we have to admit thatthere will be a before and an after Apple Silicon. Tim Millet, president of Platform Architecture and Hardware Technologies at Apple, readily admits, “The M1 chip was about redefining what you can now expect from a laptop on many levels.” The release of the 2023 MacBook Pros with their M2 chips gave MacBook owners hope that video game performance would finally match the potential of the components.

Unfortunately, as the benchmarks prove, Apple’s computers are still not machines made for gamers. If the MacBook Pro M2 Pro 2023 are well equipped, in particular in terms of number of GPUs, the experience is disappointing at best, and the catalog is spartan to say the least. For a gamer on Mac, it is true that the choice in triple A games is very thin. Apart from Shadow of the Tomb Raider or Deus Ex: Mankind Divided (which is still starting to date), there is not much to put under your fingers.

To play properly on MacBook you will have to wait, Apple is aiming for the long term

Bob Borchers, Apple’s marketing director, said, “We’re not going to fool anyone by saying that overnight we’re going to make the Mac a great gaming platform. We’re aiming for the long term.” In other words, there are market shares to conquer, but there are many obstacles. On the one hand, publishers are not interested enough in this platform, and on the other hand, porting a game for Windows to Mac is not easy enough with the tools currently available to programmers.

“We’re adding new APIs and extending Metal 3 (Apple’s 3D graphics acceleration library),” Borchers told TechCrunch. If you add to that the ability to transfer it all to iPads and iPhonesI think there is a phenomenal opportunity [pour les développeurs de jeux de toucher un large public] “.
