Apple: augmented reality glasses will not be released until 2025… or 2026
An expert in Apple’s supply chain says it will take even longer than expected to see Apple Glass, the augmented reality glasses according to the Cupertino company, on our shelves.
Tim Cook is a big believer in virtual reality. Apple will probably have a big role in the development of the metaverse. To do this, the Apple brand must first release a founding product, as was the iPod or iPhone in their time. The pair of augmented reality glasses from the apple brand, the Apple Glass, is a true Arlesian from Silicon Valley.
While the latest news was that they were supposed to be released at the end of 2024, analyst Jeff Pu says it will take even longer than expected. To get an overview of the VR accessory, it will therefore be necessary wait until 2025, or even 2026. However, the expert does not specify whether he is talking only about the glasses or whether the VR headset is also affected by this delay. According to Me Pu, this delay in product launch is due to “design issues”.
Apple Glasses have design issues
As we know, Apple is very ambitious. After all, it is the best valued company on the stock market. It is worth more than all the other GAFAMs combined, despite the crisis. Tim Cook describes augmented reality as a technology that will change everything. According to him, Apple Glass will have a lasting influence on the market. Such a product is notoriously difficult to develop, because Apple wants to make it an everyday object, space-saving, light and that we wear constantly.
Virtual reality is the next eldorado for tech giants. A company like Meta spends billions of dollars a year creating a Metaverse. The economic potential, however, is enormous. In 2021 alone, it is estimated that virtual reality has generated nearly $22 billion. If forecasts are correct, this figure will have tripled by 2030.
Many experts agree, however, that the market is nascent, and that the public has not yet caught on to the concept. Current virtual reality headsets are often bulky, and require tedious installation which is enough to discourage the public for everyday use. The arrival of Apple Glass could change all that. The company intends to sell 1.5 million.
