Apple hopes to sell 300 million iPhones in 2022, a record
A rumor claims that Apple has contacted its Asian subcontractors to increase the number of iPhones to be manufactured. The Cupertino company hopes to sell 170 million iPhones in the first half of 2022. This represents 30% more than over the same period in 2021. Apple’s objective in 2022 would be to reach 300 million. iPhone sold, thanks to the iPhone 13, iPhone 14 and iPhone SE 3.
Apple’s fiscal fourth quarter corresponds to the third calendar quarter. It runs from the end of June to the end of September. It is usually a fairly slow quarter, except for the last few weeks. Indeed, Apple announces its new iPhones there, then markets them around the third week, allowing the firm to boost its results over this period.

As a result, Apple’s fiscal fourth quarter 2021 is excellent, with revenue of $ 83.4 billion, up 29% over one year, narrowly missing the announced targets. The latter would have been reached if the iPhone stocks had been there: because of the shortage of components, Apple could not serve everyone. The firm estimates at $ 6 billion shortfall.

But Apple reportedly intends to catch up. According to a leak from Asia, the Cupertino company would have asked its subcontractors to increase the production rate of its smartphones. The aim is to achieve the 170 million units in the first half of 2022, i.e. 30% better as the 130 million of the first half of 2021. Over the whole of next year, Apple wants to sell 300 million iPhones.
For this, the firm would have three weapons at its disposal. The iPhone 13 series on the one hand, of which we have tested all the members in our columns. Apple should use iPad components to fill some gaps in the smartphone assembly lines. The iPhone 14 of course, which will arrive in the third quarter of 2022. The latter should benefit from new photo sensors, a new titanium frame and a screen without notch. Finally, the last weapon, the iPhone SE 3, expected in March 2022. It should take again the chassis of the iPhone 6, while taking advantage of new internal components and a 5G connection.
