Apple to postpone the release of the first iPad with OLED display until 2023
Apple has decided to postpone the launch of the first iPad with an OLED screen until 2023. According to information from Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC), the tablet would be built around a 10.9-inch OLED touch screen. At the same time, the leak prophesies the abandonment of the MacBook Pro Touch Bar.
In recent months, many leaks have come to announce the arrival of the first iPad built around an OLED screen for next year. As early as last March, a series of indiscretions and reports from reliable analysts, including the famous Ming-Chi Kuo, spoke of a launch in 2022.
Apple already offers OLED screens on several products in its catalog, including iPhones, but has never adopted this technology on its touch panels. The Cupertino company would inaugurate the arrival of OLED on its tablets with iPad Air 5. Secondly, the OLED would also be offered on entry-level and high-end iPads. The LCD would then disappear completely.
No OLED iPad before 2023?
More recently, a report from the analysis firm Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC) contradicted the latest rumors. According to the firm’s forecasts, Apple would finally wait until 2023 to lift the veil on the first iPad with an OLED screen. The builder would bet on a 10.9-inch slab.
The same year, Apple would also announce an iPad Pro with an 11 and 12.9 inch OLED screen. The Californian group would therefore already begin to abandon the Mini-LED, inaugurated on the latest iPad Pro. According to previous rumors, this backlight technology could still be used on future MacBook Air Mini.
Fearing that the OLED panels suffer from burns, Apple would be cautious about rushing OLED adoption instead of the traditional LCD, recently reported Ming-Chi Kuo. Ultimately, the analyst’s information corroborates DSCC’s estimates. As a reminder, the firm relies solely on component orders. It is therefore not impossible that the report lacks precision.
In the report, Display Supply Chain Consultants also announces the disappearance of the Touch Bar of MacBook Pro. Integrated into Pro computers for several years, this OLED touch bar provides easy access to options or application controls. Unfortunately, she never met user buy-in.
