Apple wants to integrate the measurement of blood glucose without puncture or drop of blood in the Apple Watch
According to Bloomberg, Apple has found a way to measure blood glucose levels without a bite.
Apple Watch’s health features are probably the reason why this smartwatch is the best-selling smartwatch in the world. Even if the Samsungs and other Garmins compete in inventiveness against the hegemony of Apple, it must be admitted that the tools of electrocardiography, fall detection or even measurement of the level of oxygen have already contributed to saving Lives. The Cupertino company will add a another argument in favor of the Apple Watch: blood sugar measurement.
After years of research, Apple would have succeeded in creating a technology allowing to measure the blood sugar levels of people without them needing to prick themselves. It would be particularly suitable for the Apple Watch, although according to journalist Mark Gurman, the current device is still “about the size of an iPhone”. Some miniaturization efforts are therefore necessary before the Apple connected watch is equipped with it.
The Apple Watch will be able to measure blood sugar without a prick or a drop of blood
To measure the level of glucose in the blood at the surface of the skin and in a non-invasive way, it uses a absorption spectrometry method. This tool will ideally complement the health features already available on the Apple Watch. It will be of particular interest to people with diabetes, who currently have to prick themselves several times a day to control their blood sugar. This feature will allow them toautomate this procedure and be notified in the event of abnormal blood sugar levels.

In eight years of existence and as many iterations, the Apple Watch has continued to nibble market share. While initially Apple tried to sell it as a fashion accessory, it has become an indispensable health partner for many users. As early as 2019, Tim Cook, CEO of the company, declared that “Apple’s greatest contribution to humanity would be in the field of health”.
