Apple will unveil a new MacBook Pro with an M2 chip in 2022, but without a mini-LED display
Apple is currently working on a new generation of cheaper MacBook Pro, with a new M2 processor but with some major differences with the current 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro.
After launching a new generation of 14- and 16-inch MacBook Pros at the end of 2021, Apple would now like to launch a new, less expensive MacBook Pro model by the end of 2022. In its Power On newsletter, the Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman has lifted the veil on the first technical details about the MacBook Pro 2022.
This cheaper MacBook Pro will likely succeed the 13-inch MacBook Pro that launched in 2021. As a reminder, this was Apple’s first laptop to use an M1 chip, and the new model should also be the first to be equipped with an M2 chip new generation.

What’s new for the 2022 MacBook Pro?
According to Mark Gurman, the main novelty of this 2022 model is the introduction of a new M2 chip that is even more powerful than the current generation. However, the 2022 MacBook Pro is not expected to benefit from all the new features introduced on the 14- and 16-inch MacBook Pros last year.
Indeed, according to his information, the new MacBook Pro 2022 will not use a mini-LED screen as on current models, since it will be satisfied with a traditional LCD screen. The latter should therefore not be subject to the overheating problems currently encountered by the 14- and 16-inch MacBook Pros.
Additionally, Mark Gurman announces that the 2022 MacBook Pro will only use not ProMotion technology, i.e. the screen will not be 120 Hz. Also, unlike its 2020 predecessor, the new model should abandon the Touch Barthat OLED touch bar above the keyboard, bringing it in line with higher-end models.
In addition to the new MacBook, Gurman points out that the 24-inch iMac will also be updated, as well as the entry-level Mac mini. It is also known that Apple plans to unveil a new MacBook Air model with an M2 chip by the end of 2022.
