Cancellation of E3 2023… but why?
E3 is canceled… If you ever ordered your plane tickets to Los Angeles or planned to have a good time watching shows packed with new announcements and future Devolver memes, you missed it. We come back to the reasons for cancellation from E3 to explain everything to you. And above all… what will happen to the edition E3 2024 ?
Reasons why E3 2023 is canceled
We suspected a little but the E3 will not return this year either. Despite the teaser from ReedPop, the company organizing the event, this show will not take place. According to an internal email from the company that usually organizes the convention, all the staff were informed this week of the official cancellation of E3 2023.
Even if one can wonder why, when the event had been announced several months ago and the organizers had declared that they preferred to cancel the 2022 edition to come back in force in 2023, the reasons for this cancellation are quite obvious.
First, the pandemic and the current recession have greatly delayed the production of video games, so much so that you are almost more often told about closures than game releases since January. Next, game publishers and developers want do everything themselves : everyone wants their virtual currencies, their own metaverseits games, its own media and its own convention.
Will E3 2024 happen?
For practical reasons, conventions or game presentation events are essentially done online and there is therefore no longer any reason to go to an event like E3 to highlight their latest productions since everyone has their own own virtual storefront. It’s here main reason for cancellation of E3 in 2023, not the delay in video game productions.
THE Nintendo DirectTHE State of Play and all the other major recurring live shows from video game publishers took precedence over E3 which failed to reinvent its formula to attract them to Los Angeles. E3 is not completely abandoned but the hope that it will finally return in 2024 with a real impact remains very low. I’E3 2024 moves away a little more each day rather than getting closer.
