Chrome: Google Assistant will automatically change hacked passwords

by mobailee May 6, 2022 157

Chrome is already able to spot hacked passwords for several months. But now, Google Assistant will automatically change the compromised codes for you. We explain how it works.

Last year, Google introduced a new feature to protect Chrome users on Android. This option allows Google Assistant to ensure that your passwords have not been compromised during a hack or any computer attack.

Concretely, the intelligent assistant compares an encrypted copy of your identifiers and passwords to a database containing hacked passwords. If your password has been stolen by a hacker, Google will advise you to change it on all the platforms where it is used in order to block access by a possible attacker.

Google Assistant will change your passwords for you

Google Assistant doesn’t stop there. On Chrome, the smart assistant will offer you to change password directly having been compromised. Concretely, the Google Assistant will display a window with a “Change password” button.

If you click on this button (which we advise you to do), Chrome will relay you to the corresponding site (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter,…) and will change your password for you. You can take control at any time or let the Wizard make the necessary changes. You can choose your own password or let Chrome’s built-in password manager offer you a super secure code.

This option, inaugurated last year, has gradually been rolled out to all Android smartphones worldwide over the past few months. Until now, most Internet users still had to manually change password that have been pinned by Google Assistant. The functionality was not fully available on most terminals.

It looks like the full option is now active for most Chrome users on Android. Max Weinbach, a young American informant, shared a screenshot of the feature on his Twitter account. Google has visibly accelerated the rollout in recent days.

Please note that the functionality is not not compatible with all websites. Not all sites support this new feature of Chrome yet. Have you been able to test the option? We are waiting for your opinion in the comments.
