Galaxy Tab S8, S8+ and S8 Ultra: Samsung presents its new line of premium tablets
Samsung unveiled its three new tablets at its Unpacked event: the Galaxy Tab S8, the Galaxy Tab S8+ and the Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra. It is the third model that intrigues here, since it is the largest Android tablet on the market.
Samsung is one of the last manufacturers to still bet on high-end tablets on Android. The manufacturer has thus unveiled its new line of tactile slates. Three products in total: Galaxy Tab S8, Galaxy Tab S8+ and Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra.
The three tablets still adopt the half-slate half-PC format with the possibility of including a keyboard and using the Samsung Dex interface. All three are powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor. The difference between the models lies above all in the screen and the battery.
The Galaxy Tab S8 and S8+, tablets with no surprises
Let’s start with the first two models. The Galaxy Tab S8 and S8+ are, as their name suggests, the replacements for the Tab S7 and S7+. A technical update that brings few surprises.
The smallest model, the Tab S8, has an 11-inch LCD screen with a definition of 2560 x 1600 pixels with a refresh rate of 120 Hz. The Tab S8 + model puts on an AMOLED panel of 12 .4 inches (2,800 x 1,752 pixels, 120 Hz) a little more attractive. They are respectively equipped with an 8,000 mAh and 10,090 mAh battery, compatible with 45 Watt fast charging. If the S-Pen is included, this is not the case for the keyboard cover sold separately.
The Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra, the XXL tablet
The model that intrigues here is the Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra. She is endowed a huge 14.6-inch AMOLED screen (2960 x 1848 pixels, 120Hz). It’s simply the largest Android tablet on the market. The battery is 11,200 mAh and is also compatible with fast charging of 45 Watts. Again, the keyboard is sold separately.
We also notice the notch on the screen. This is composed two 12 megapixel cameras. Samsung promises us a dynamic zoom during visios with several people. Thus, in a meeting, the tablet will automatically focus on the speaker. It remains to be seen whether such a gigantic size will manage to seduce users. We were lucky enough to be able to handle it in preview, and the first approach seemed very convincing to us, especially thanks to its featherweight of 700 grams (a PC of the same size generally exceeds one kilo).
The three tablets carry Android 12 with Samsung One UI 4.1 overlay. The manufacturer promises software improvements focused on convergence. For example, if you draw on your tablet, you can use your Galaxy S22 as a color palette. It is also possible to copy a text on one terminal to copy it to the other.
Samsung Dex, the “PC” interface, is always present (accessible via a button on the keyboard). It is also possible to transform your tablet into a second screen for PC Windows 10 and 11. Convenient. In short, always interesting features.
The three tablets are available on the Samsung site. Here are the prices:
- Galaxy Tab S8: from 769 euros
- Galaxy Tab S8 +: from 999 euros
- Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra: from 1219 euros
For every pre-order until March 31, Samsung is giving away a Book Cover Slim keyboard for the Tab S8 and S8+ and a Book Cover Keyboard for the Tab S8 Ultra. Tablets which, on paper, are very desirable, but which remain in line with what Samsung already offered. Only the Ultra model seems somewhat innovative thanks to its XXL size.
