Galaxy Watch 4: this app turns your connected watch into a walkie-talkie
Samsung has just deployed a new application on the Play Store compatible exclusively with the Galaxy Watch 4 and Watch 4 Classic, the latest connected watches from the manufacturer. Called WalkieTalkie, it allows, as its name suggests, to chat with another Galaxy Watch 4 owner nearby.
This August 11, 2021, Samsung held a new Galaxy Unpacked conference. Of course, the main stars of the show were the brand’s new foldable smartphones, namely the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Z Flip 3. However, the manufacturer also took the opportunity to unveil its new connected watches: the Galaxy Watch. 4 and Watch 4 Classic.
The main novelty of these watches lies in the presence of an Exynos W920 processor engraved in 5nm, a new screen and a storage capacity more generous than usual, going from 8 to 16 GB. And while Samsung is currently concluding deliveries of pre-orders, the manufacturer has just announced the deployment of an application on the Play Store exclusively compatible with the Galaxy Watch 4.

Turn your Galaxy Watch 4 into a walkie talkie with this app
Baptized WalkieTalkie, it allows as its name suggests “two or more users to have instant conversations, as if using a walkie-talkie ”, describes Samsung. The manufacturer adds: “Create an instant Walkie-Talkie channel on your Galaxy Watch and immediately enjoy instant conversations with friends, colleagues or family members who are in your contacts and use the watch ”.
Samsung also recommends launching the application for the first time. when your watch is connected to your smartphone. Then simply pair your smartwatch with that of a friend nearby, then press and hold the microphone button to transmit your voice. Note that the WalkieTalkie application requests a certain number of permissions to function properly. Here is the full list:
- Microphone access : used to receive voice input from the microphone for Walkie-Talkie conversations and to transmit your voice to the other party
- Access to contacts : Used to identify friends who can use the Walkie-Talkie based on your contacts
- Call : Used to limit the Walkie-Talkie function when you receive a call during a conversation on the Walkie-Talkie app
- Location : Used to create your channel by searching for friends near your location via bluetooth
This last permission is optional, so obtaining it is not essential for the proper functioning of the app. The Walkie-Talkie app is available now on the Play Store and its use requires a Samsung account.
