Galaxy Watch 5: Samsung could integrate a thermometer, a first
According to our colleagues from the Korean site ETNews, Samsung is currently seeking to integrate a brand new feature dedicated to monitoring the user’s vital signs. Indeed, the manufacturer could add a thermometer to its next connected watch.
As you may know, Samsung enjoyed a new Galaxy Unpacked conference in August 2021 to reveal its new foldable smartphones, namely the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and the Galaxy Z Flip 3, but not only. Indeed, the Seoul firm has also lifted the veil on the Galaxy Watch 4, its brand new connected watches.
Their main feature? They are the first to ship Android Wear, a brand new operating system based on Wear OS and designed in collaboration with Google. With the adoption of this new OS, Samsung wants to offer users a wide choice of applications and access to the Google ecosystem. Only downside, it is imperative to have an Android smartphone to manage the watch.
For now, the Galaxy Watch 4 and Watch 4 Classic are the only connected watches from the manufacturer to take advantage of Android Wear. Nevertheless, the future Galaxy Watch 5 should soon swell the ranks. Their existence has not yet been made official by the South Korean company, but rumors about them begin to flood the web.
Samsung wants to integrate a thermometer on the Galaxy Watch 5
And precisely, our colleagues from the South Korean site ETNews, generally well informed about the brand’s products, have just published first information on the Galaxy Watch 5. According to their source, Samsung is looking to integrate a thermometer function on its next connected watches:
“Galaxy Watch users will be able to use the thermometer to detect symptoms of Covid-19. Body temperature is considered an important health indicator. Several causes of fever, such as infectious diseases or colds, can be managed, as can ovulation cycles for women,” explains ETNews.
Note that Samsung will not be the first to want to integrate a thermometer on a connected watch. Huawei experimented with the Huawei Watch 3 and Watch GT 3, with skin temperature sensors. Only, the reliability of the measurements leaves something to be desired, since the accessory is content to record the temperature of the skin only and not that of the body. On the Apple side, the latest rumors claim that there will be no temperature sensor on the Apple Watch Series 8.
