Gmail on Android: no more losing your emails, improved search is coming in October 2021
The Android version of Gmail has a long overdue feature: improved search. If it is already possible to find your emails on the application, it will be even easier by using filters for the attachment or a specific keyword.
Gmail keeps getting better. On the security side, the application is excelling more and more, especially thanks to its latest phishing defense system. From a design point of view too, there is an evolution, with the recent arrival of the new interface inspired by Material You. But it is in terms of functionality that Gmail is changing the most. Not happy to have become a real swiss army knife with the addition of audio and video calls, search is now the subject of an improvement.
On its web version, it is already possible to find old messages lost in the abyss of your mailbox. For this, Google has implemented a system of ultra detailed filters, ranging from the name of the attachment to the presence of a very specific keyword, including the name of the recipient. On Android, it’s another matter: users still have to be content with a relatively classic search engine. But that is about to change, as the Mountain View firm announced in a blog post.

The principle therefore remains the same. Users will now have a number of options available to refine their search and increase their chance of finding the object of their desires. These appear as filters under the search bar, when a keyword is typed.
A simple update of the application will be necessary to take advantage of it. Google specifies that it is already available for some users since September 20. The deployment will run up to end of October 2021, it will therefore be necessary to be patient for the others. We recommend that you take a look at the Play Store regularly in case you’ve been looking for an email for months.
