Gmail: the application now allows you to make voice and video calls
Google has just announced a major update for the Gmail app on Android and iOS. Users can now make one-to-one voice and video calls right in Google Chat in the Gmail app.
Last September, Google announced that it would allow users to make calls directly from the Gmail app on iOS and Android. Until now, users could create a Google Meet link in the app and share it with others through the service of their choice or join meetings created by other people through the mobile app, but Google just made the process easier to save you time.
Indeed, you can now call people one-on-one by voice or video directly from the chat available in Gmail on smartphone and on the web. With this new feature, Google hopes to balance the ability of people who have returned to the physical workplace and those who continue to work from home to connect with each other without wasting time.

How do Gmail calls work?
The voice or video call options are now displayed in the upper right corner of the Gmail application when you send messages to your colleagues or friends from the “Chat” tab. Simply select the phone or video icon in the upper right corner of an individual chat to directly call a person.
Missed calls will be highlighted by a red icon next to each contact in the chat list, just like calls in progress, which will also be indicated by a blue banner at the top of the screen indicating the name of the person and the duration of the call.
Google specifies that this new feature is available to all Google users, including Workspace, G Suite Basic, and Business customers, as well as personal Google Accounts. Google also reported that users clicking the “Join a call” button in the Google Chat app will be redirected to the Gmail app.
The new feature is available by default on Android and iOS devices, but you’ll need to install the latest version of Gmail to take advantage of it. According to Google, the updated version of Gmail is being rolled out for users of both platforms, but it will take about two weeks for everyone to receive it on Apple Store or Google Play Store. In the meantime, Google has already rolled out other features to its messaging app, including new options that prevent you from getting the wrong recipient.
