Google launches Android 13 GB for the cheapest smartphones
It’s been five years since Google introduced the first Android Go operating system for less powerful smartphones. The latter is now entitled to a new update to Android 13.
After the release of Android 13 last August on Pixel smartphones, the American company today announces the arrival of a version specially designed for low-end smartphones. This version is important, because there are now over 250 million monthly active users who rely on the Android Go platform. This is therefore 50 million more than the previous year.
To ensure that Google is able to satisfy the growing number of users, the company will focus on three essential elements: reliability, user-friendliness and personalization. With the Android 13GB edition, Google aims to make the experience much better for everyone.
What’s new in Android 13 Go?
With Android 13 (Go edition), Google Play system updates are now coming to compatible devices, which means that these can receive important software updates regularly, apart from the major version of Android. This will make delivering critical updates quick and easy without compromising on-device storage availability.
Google also introduced its Discover feature on Android 13 Go, which allows users to swipe right from their home screen to find the latest list of recommended articles and other forms of content. For the moment, it is not known if this will be different from the experience offered by Discover on Android 13.
Apart from these new features, Google has also brought new customization options to smartphones. The biggest visual change is that this update brings Material You to Android phones. For the first time, devices can use this new customization feature to set a background and select recommended color schemes to unify the look of the interface. However, Material You does not offer the animations that are available on the full edition of Android 13.
As a reminder, Android 13 (Go edition) is for devices with 16 GB or less of storage and less than 2 GB of RAM. Phones running Android 13 (Go edition) will be marketed in 2023. We will obviously keep you informed of the best devices in this category.
