Google Messages: Gmail’s automatic reminders are coming to the app soon
Google Messages is preparing to welcome a feature from Gmail. The “Nudges” or “Automatic reminders” in the language of Molière were launched in 2019 on Google’s messaging service. This time, these “Nudges” could well land on Google Messages. You will no longer be able to forget to reply to a message.
Over the years, Google has worked hard to flesh out the proposition of Google Messages, its instant messaging application. It must be said that the competition is tough, between WhatsApp, Telegram, Signal, Facebook Messenger, or even iMessage. Recently, Google Messages took a giant leap forward by finally getting end-to-end encryption. Enough to catch up with the competition that has been offering this feature for years now.
Google Messages has also banned SMS authentication codes. From now on, these messages disappear after 24 hours, the goal being to spare the internal memory of your smartphone. However, as the specialists of the XDA Developers site report to us, a feature from Gmail could soon land on Google Messages.
Gmail’s automatic reminders land on Google Messages
Remember, Google integrated new functionality into its flagship messaging service in 2018. Called “Nudge” (Automatic reminders in French), it simply allows you to highlight emails to which you have not answered. “When your inbox is flooded with emails, some will inevitably slip through the net. Fortunately, the new Gmail can help. It will now push users to reply to emails they missed and to follow emails to which they have not received a response ”, Google explained four years ago.
As XDA Developers has noted, the APK of the most recent beta version of Google Messages con
holds several references to “Nudge”. By tweaking a little, the developers have successfully activated this feature on the app. When enabled, “Nudge” will bring unanswered conversations to the top of the inbox, even if you’ve opened them and read the most recent messages. Likewise, messages that imperatively require a response will also be highlighted.
Of course, it will be possible to deactivate these two options in the settings of Google Messages. For the moment, can’t tell when automatic reminders will be available to all Google Messages users. We will update this article when we have additional information for you.
