Google Photos: after the Pixels, the locked folder lands on other Android smartphones

by mobailee December 3, 2021 136

The wait for Android users is soon over: Google Photos now allows you to hide sensitive photos in a locked folder on smartphones other than Pixels. The functionality was notably spotted on the Samsung Galaxy A52. IPhone users, on the other hand, will obviously have to wait a bit longer.

This is a feature that is long overdue by many Google Photos users. During its I / O conference in May 2021, the Mountain View firm announced that its application would soon integrate a locked folder, in which it will be possible to protect sensitive photos from prying eyes. A month later, the file finally made its appearance on the Pixels, with Google promising that other smartphones will soon be entitled to it.

According to the screenshots taken by our colleagues from Android Police, it seems that the deployment on other Android devices has started. Indeed, the file is now available on the Samsung Galaxy A52. In writing, we were able to test on Galaxy S20 +, a smartphone on which functionality is also present. Note also that the application prevents taking a capture of the interior of the file for security reasons.

Google Photos Locked Folder Comes to Android Smartphones

The folder is then accessible via the path Library> Useful suggestions> Folder locked, or directly by typing “locked folder” in the search bar. Google Photos will then ask for biometric verification or a PIN code depending on the method you have configured it with. Also note the hidden photos are removed from cloud storage, to avoid accidentally falling on it.

On the same topic: Google Photos – a free unlimited storage option for buyers of the next Pixels?

In other words, no need to pass a third-party application. For iPhone users, that’s another story. Google promised that the feature would be accessible to everyone by the end of the year. For Android, the thing seems to be already settled. On iOS, the Cupertino company was satisfied that the file would arrive “soon”. Patience, therefore, it will not be long in coming.
