Google’s Pixel Watches are selling pretty well, despite criticism

When it was released, the Pixel Watch was not unanimous among testers. The latter particularly criticized the Google connected watch for its lack of endurance and functionality. In recent times, some users had even witnessed failures of the Pixel Watch alarm. All these problems are not prohibitive in the eyes of millions of buyers, since according to a report published by Canalys, Mountain View’s watch is said to be one of the best-selling ones in the world today.

According to the study conducted by Canalys on sales of connected accessories in the fourth quarter of 2022, international sales of connected fitness watches and bracelets have reportedly fallen by 18% in the last quarter of the year. This is a real blow for this sector, since traditionally, sales at the time of the end-of-year celebrations are doing well. All the big names in the sector are affected by this sharp decline.

The Pixel Watches are selling very well despite the flaws attributed to them

While Apple remains the undisputed leader in the smartwatch category, its sales are down 17%. Asian brands are not doing any better, Samsung suffering a real setback, with a 35% drop in sales. According to Canalys, therefore, it is Google that is doing the good deal at the end of 2022, since sales of Fitbit and the Pixel Watch allow it to climb to second place on the podiumwith 8% market share, behind the untouchable apple firm.

Unsurprisingly, the release of the Google-branded connected watch hurt the company’s Fitbit bracelets, whose sales fell by 25%. It seems that the Mountain View company wants to give priority to the Pixel Watch in the future, even if it means gradually depriving Fitbit of their essential functionalities. THE 880,000 Pixel Watch sold in the last quarter of 2022 yet represent less than a quarter of sales of connected watches and bracelets from Google.
