Instagram wants to add moderators to live video streams
Instagram is working on a new feature for creators who broadcast live video. Soon it will be possible to appoint a moderator who can monitor subscriber activity. The moderator will be able to block comments, delete certain messages and many other actions. Only downside: for the moment, there is only one moderator per stream.
If you use Instagram, you know that it’s not just a social network based on sharing photos or videos with followers. Increasingly, Instagram is becoming a live video streaming platform. This function is called ” Insta Live “. And it allows, like on YouTube or Facebook, to broadcast live a video to (tens or hundreds of) thousands of people at the same time.
Instagram: you can now follow lives from a PC browser
The interest of “live” is twofold. First of all, a live video is a snapshot : fast, efficient. Then it offers a way tointeraction with subscribers. These can ask questions live or post comments. And the user can reply to them during the video. Reactivity and interactivity: this is what best qualifies live videos. We have done several on our YouTube channel. And it was good times every time.
Instagram moderators will soon filter comments during live videos
But, as with forums or comments, sometimes you have to face malicious comments (and not just negative). It is therefore necessary to have a “gendarme” who watches over the grain. On Instagram, this function is not yet possible. But it should happen soon. Alessandro Paluzzi, Italian developer and specialist in source code peeling, has discovered in the bowels of the latest version of Instagram the traces of a future moderation function.
This feature will allow an Instagram user who wants to broadcast a live video to appoint a moderator from among the other Instagram users. This can only be a user watching the video live. And there can only be one. The moderator will be able to manage the messages posted and activate the various social features of live (responses, comments).
It is not said whether the moderator can also manage the live participants: ban the author of malicious comments, accept requests from non-subscribers, etc. But this function will certainly have a positive impact on reducing the number of hate messages posted on the social network, as well as the filter that hides offensive private messages or anti-harassment alert pop-ups that appear in the event of an insult.
