Instagram will now automatically translate text in stories

(Pocket-lint) – Instagram is expanding its translation technologies to stories, five years after launching the feature for posts and captions.
Basically, the social media app offers the option to automatically translate the text in the story articles. When it detects a foreign language in a message, it displays a “View translation” option in the upper corner of the screen. All you have to do is tap it to immediately see a translation at the bottom of your screen.
According to Instagram, its story language translation feature will be available worldwide at launch and currently supports more than 90 languages, including Arabic, Hindi, Japanese and Portuguese. (Instagram has stated that support for some languages may vary depending on the operating system you are using.)

The idea behind this feature is to make it easy to share stories with an international audience. Keep in mind that in 2016, Instagram started offering machine translations for user comments, captions, and bios. Although he started stories less than a month later, he didn’t bring them a translation.
It should be noted that Instagram’s machine translation technology only works on story text. Audio translations are not available “at the moment”. We think this feature may be in the works, given that Instagram rolled out automatic captioning for English stories in May. Let’s just hope it doesn’t take years to debut.
