A little less than a week after the big Spring Keynote, Apple has just rolled out new versions of iOS 15.4 and iPadOS 15.4, the fourth major updates to the iOS 15 and iPadOS 15 operating systems that launched in September. iOS and iPadOS 15.4 are significant updates that bring a number of useful new features to iPhone and iPad.

Many users around the world have been eagerly waiting for iOS 15.4 which adds several new features. In particular, we can mention the arrival of 37 new emoji characters and the support of new feature “Tap to Pay on iPhone” which allows NFC-enabled iPhones to accept payments through Apple Pay. However, the most important feature is the ability to unlock your device with Face ID even when wearing a mask.

Face ID now recognizes your face even with a mask

iOS 15.4 adds an option to use Face ID while wearing a mask. The company has been talking about this feature for several months now, and the first users had already been able to take advantage of it in the beta of the update which was released last January.

As a reminder, mask wearers could already unlock their iPhone with Face ID since last year’s iOS 14.5 update, but they also had to wear an Apple Watch. From now on, Apple Watch is no longer requiredjust point the Face ID sensors towards your face to unlock your iPhone.

Not all iPhones are compatible with this new feature. According to Apple, only the iPhone 12 and 13 are eligible. iOS 15.4 is available for all devices compatible with iOS 15, which means that all devices from the iPhone 6S will be entitled to the update. iPadOS 15.4, meanwhile, is available for all iPad Pro models, the second-generation iPad Air and above, the fourth-generation iPad mini and above, and all devices from the fifth-generation iPad onwards. basic and more.
