iOS 16 development is complete, but macOS Ventura and iPadOS 16 will arrive later
iOS 16.0 is ready and will be deployed in September with the launch of the iPhone 14. Apple Watch Series 8 and watchOS 9 are also on Apple’s back-to-school program. For macOS Ventura and iPadOS 16, as well as the new Macs and iPads, we will have to wait until October.
Apple is on schedule. While the new generation of iPhone is about to point the tip of its nose, we learn through Mark Gurman, journalist of Bloomberg, that the Apple brand has concluded the development of the first stable version of iOS 16 in mid-August 2022.
The iPhone 14s expected in August will therefore be natively powered by the latest version of Apple’s mobile operating system. iOS 16 will also be available from its official launch on iPhones from previous years by way of update.
iOS16 with watchOS 9 from September, macOS Ventura and iPadOS 16 in October
Alongside iOS 16, Apple will also deploy watchOS 9. This means that the new Apple Watch, from the 8 series, should be presented at the same time as the iPhone during the major back-to-school conference of the Cupertino company. According to Mark Gurman, this keynote could happen very quickly since it would take place on the Wednesday following Labor Day in the United States, which is September 7, 2022. And if Apple sticks to its usual schedule, the iPhones will go on sale 10 days later, after a period of pre-orders.
On the other hand, we should not expect a launch of stable versions for macOS Ventura and iPadOS 16 right away. According to the same source, these would only be made available to the public in October, coinciding with the release of the new Macs and iPads. While macOS is used to evolving independently of iOS’s schedule, it’s unusual to see iPadOS lag so far behind its iPhone equivalent.
It is possible that this organization will remain in the following years, Apple preferring to launch its new major versions of OS at the same time as new products, and having chosen to reserve the iPhone and the Apple Watch for September, then the Macs and iPad for October.
