iPad mini 6: Apple would bet on the SoC A15 of the iPhone 13 and a USB-C port
The iPad mini 6 continues to unveil itself. According to a new leak, the Apple tablet would be powered by the A15 Bionic SoC, the same chipset as the new iPhone 13. In addition to its modern design inspired by the iPad Air, the tactile slate would be equipped with a USB-C port and a Smart Connector to connect a keyboard.
Apple is currently working on a new iPad mini. According to the various leaks that have appeared on the web in recent months, this iPad mini 6 would be visually very close to the latest iPad Air. In particular, we would find a Touch ID fingerprint reader integrated on a button on the edge. In the process, Apple would abandon the wide borders that surround the touch screen.
According to information obtained by 9to5Mac, Apple would not be satisfied with modernizing the design of the iPad mini 6. This new generation would also be accompanied by a redesign of its components. Rather than relying on an older generation SoC, Apple would use the A15 Bionic SoC. This is the chipset engraved in 5 nm that will enter the market with the iPhone 13.
Apple abandons Lightning port for USB-C
Citing sources familiar with the matter, the media claim that Apple is also working on an A15X SoC even more powerful. This chipset could appear on other iPads in the coming months. We are thinking in particular of the future iPad Air. The iPad mini 6 will also stand out from its predecessors thanks to a USB-C port instead of the traditional Lightning connector. Thanks to this port, already present on the iPad Pro and on the latest iPad Air, the tablet will be compatible with a host of accessories.
Finally, the leak announces the arrival of a Smart Connector. This magnetic connector will allow a physical keyboard of the Magic Keyboard type to be attached to the iPad mini. De facto, this new generation is more focused on productivity than the previous iPad mini, often relegated to consultation. 9to5Mac also believes that Apple will launch a range of accessories compatible with the tablet.
According to previous information relayed by Bloomberg, Apple could announce the iPad mini in the fall of 2021. If the leaks are confirmed, it could be the most significant redesign of the iPad mini line.
