iPad mini: Apple will finally modernize the design of the tablet

Apple is finally preparing to modernize the design of the iPad mini. In autumn 2021, the Cupertino giant would announce a sixth generation of tablets very different from the previous ones. This iPad mini 6 would be very close to the latest iPad Air. Apple would thus abandon the Home button and the Lightning port.

In recent months, many leaks have come to prophesy the arrival of a new iPad mini. For example, Ming-Chi Kuo, the famous analyst who can predict Apple’s plans, announced the release of a new small-sized iPad sometime in the second half of 2021.

Mark Gurman, reporter at Bloomberg and inexhaustible source of information on Apple’s plans, agrees. The reporter assures that the sixth generation iPad mini will be presented in autumn. We can count on an announcement around November if Apple stays true to its calendar habits.

For the first time since 2012, Apple has decided to thoroughly review the design of the iPad mini. The brand would abandon the Home button with integrated Touch ID and the screen with the thick borders like sidewalks. The tablet would also trade the aging Lightning port for a USB-C charging port.

De facto, this new iPad mini will be closer to the iPad Air launched in 2020. On both models, Apple lodges Touch ID fingerprint reader on a button on the edge. No Face ID facial recognition on the entry-level tablet. Other options announced include compatibility with Apple Pencil, the dedicated stylus designed by Apple.
