iPhone 14: iOS 16.4 could boost 5G speeds for smartphones
Apple has just rolled out a new iOS 16.4 version of its mobile operating system, which brings a few features, but which could above all improve your iPhone’s 5G speeds.
If the iPhone 14 Pro has already improved 5G speeds by almost 38% compared to the previous generation thanks to a new modem signed Qualcomm, these could soon benefit from even faster download speeds. Thanks to a new iOS 16.4 update, which is currently only available for developers in beta, Apple now supports 5G Standalone (SA)a service offered by a major US operator.
For those unaware, 5G Standalone SA was officially launched by T-Mobile across the Atlantic in November last year, and promises faster speeds, up to 3 Gbps. Its particularity is to be able to take advantage of different 5G bands at the same time to boost the maximum theoretical speed.

iPhone 14s will soon get even faster
So far, only Samsung’s latest high-end smartphones were compatible, but now it’s Apple’s turn to take advantage of it. However, since the new iOS 16.4 update, beta testers have seen a brand new option appear in the settings. This is enabled by default, and connects to the operator’s 5G Standalone network.
Unfortunately, only the iPhone 14 would be compatible with this new option, which means that older models will not benefit from these improved speeds. Note also that the update is currently only available for beta testers, and we don’t know exactly when Apple will roll it out to all users.
Among other additions, Apple is also going to let Safari web apps on your home screen send you push notifications. The update also marks the arrival of a few new emojis, andimprovements for international keyboards. Apple notably adds default autocorrection for the Korean keyboard, and text prediction for Ukrainian. There are also new languages: Urdu, Punjabi and Gujarati.
