iPhone 14 Pro: the Apple A16 chip knocks out those of Android smartphones

by mobailee October 3, 2022 52

Apple’s chips have historically outperformed Android smartphones, and the new Apple A16 in the iPhone 14 Pro is no exception. Benchmarks prove that it is much more interesting than the competition.

On his Twitter account, Golden_Reviewer posted a comparison of the performance of the new A16 processor in the iPhone 14 Pro with several of its rivals, which can be found on high-end Android smartphones. Among them, the latest Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1, the MediaTek Dimensity 9000, the Google Tensor of the Pixel 6 or the Exynos 2200 of the Galaxy S22.

As confirmed by the various benchmarks carried out on 3DMark Wildlife Extreme Mobile, GFXBench 3.1 1080p or GFXBench Aztec Vulkan/Metal 1440p, the Apple A16 is not only more efficient than its competitors, but above all much more energy efficient. This largely explains why iPhones are now considered benchmarks for battery life in the smartphone market, even if the latest iOS 16 update has damaged the endurance of some models.

The Apple A16 is more efficient than the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1

Goldran_Reviewer’s results show that the Apple A16 managed to achieve a score of 3359 points on 3DMark Wildlife Extreme Mobile for a score per Watt of 441.1. For its part, the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 obtains a score of 2812 points for a score per Watt of 401.7. Qualcomm’s chip is therefore less powerful and less energy efficient.

On GFXBench 3.1 1080p, the iPhone 14 Pro chip peaked at 195 FPS, or 23.5 FPS per Watt. The Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 is less efficient, at only 185 FPS, but its GPU seems more efficient (24.6 FPS per Watt). These results are very encouraging for Qualcomm, which we remind you, will launch a new Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor in Novembere. The latter should equip the Xiaomi 13 from the end of the year, and pcould finally allow Android smartphones to beat Apple.

In addition to offering raw power far superior to Android smartphones, we recall that the iPhone 14 Pro have dethroned almost all their competitors in photos among DXOMARK experts. Apple’s latest smartphone is even with the best screen on the market todayagain according to DXOMARK.

For Apple A16, GPU performance improvement may be marginal, but some better efficiency is still welcomed. And before the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 is available, A16 is still hands down the fastest mobile SoC. pic.twitter.com/AbCHAgnTWg
