iPhone 14: the new selfie sensor may increase the price
The iPhone 14 would be well equipped with a new photo sensor for selfies with autofocus. Supplied by LG and Sharp, this new module would be 3 times more expensive than the sensors integrated into previous iPhones. Following quality problems, Apple would indeed have drawn a line under its partnerships with Chinese groups.
The iPhone 14 range continues to be talked about. According to the latest information on the web, Apple should make significant changes to the front photo sensor. It is rumored that the brand intends to integrate an autofocus sensor on the front of its smartphones. All models in the range would be affected.
A new report from ETNews, a South Korean media, corroborates the arrival of this new photo sensor on the iPhone 14. For the first time, Apple will use a technology developed in South Korea on the front of iPhones. Disappointed by the technology offered by Chinese firms, the American group would have recently turned to LG to produce the front sensor.
The front photo sensor risks inflating the price of the iPhone 14
According to ETNews, LG has just started mass production of the front camera. The South Korean firm will also provide “parts for optical image stabilization (OIS), circuit boards for the camera and actuators”. Anxious not to depend on a single supplier, Apple will also bet on Sharp, a company based in Japan. Following the quality problems encountered with Chinese products, Apple ceased its partnership with the companies involved.
The report claims that the new iPhone front camera is considered a premium component by Apple. According to industry sources, the autofocus module is 3 times more expensive than previous iPhone front-facing cameras. “The front camera was a third of the unit price of the rear camera. It was considered a low cost part”explains ETNews.
To improve the selfies recorded by its iPhones, Apple has been forced to turn to more expensive components. This change is likely to contribute to the increase in the price of the iPhone 14. According to the latest leaks, the brand has indeed planned to revise the prices of the range upwards.
