iPhone: the famous iBeer app brought more than 15,000 euros / day to its developer
The famous iBeer iPhone app has generated colossal profits for its developer. When the application was one of the biggest hits on the App Store, the developer earned more than 15,000 euros a day.
Shortly after the launch of the first iPhone, an iOS application became one of the most popular apps on the App Store. This is’iBeer, a very basic app that simulates beer tasting. Most early iPhone users installed this useless and fun app to wow the crowd with their new toy. The app mainly highlighted the ability of the iPhone to understand how you try it in hand thanks to the accelerometer.
“Drink beer on your iPhone. Voted “Best of iTunes” and downloaded over 90 million times! This hilarious visual trick behaves like a real glass of beer”, boasts the developer on the app’s page. Over time, the developer even added options to its application. “Get 4 different types of beer, steaming hot coffee and mouthwash. Milk, soda, wine, water, champagne, vodka, etc. Select your own photo backgrounds or use our wallpapers”specifies the developer, a certain Hottrix.

The cult application of the first iPhones
In an interview with Mel Magazine, the Hottrix developer behind iBeer, Steve Sheraton, talks about the origins of the application. At first, the man had developed a software solution on its own iPhone to show it on YouTube. “I was completely broke, I was just trying to get by, living on a friend’s couch, and suddenly the video was getting millions of views, which was a lot in 2007. People were begging me to ‘get that ‘thing’ on their phone”explains Steve Sheraton.
Faced with the enthusiasm, he put on sale the application on the App Store for 2.49 €. The app made an instant hit. “We took the top spot in the App Store from day one and stayed there for about a year. iBeer was a big hit because it allowed people to show their friends what the phone was capable of. You could show them maps and all that geeky stuff, but iBeer was easier to understand”, continues the developer. Thanks to this success, Hottrix earned between $10,000 to $20,000 a day.
