Launch of a new Niantic license: Peridot
After the success of Pokémon GO or more recently Pikmin Bloom, Niantic has proven itself for several years on the market for mobile games in augmented reality use of geolocation. However, these successes are largely based on existing licenses counting many players on other platforms, even before their arrival on mobile. It was time for Niantic to take a step forward with a license of its own: Peridot.
Concept of Peridot, the new Niantic license
Similar to previous Niantic titles, Peridot will feature gameplay between AR and geolocation. In this tamagotchi-based titleyou will raise your Peridot, or Dot, a virtual creature between the puppy and the Pokémon. He will obviously have needs to be met and will require you to take care of him like a real virtual pet.
You will also have to take it with you on rides and introduce it to new environments. He can then unearth virtual treasures to collect while showering you with affection.
Like Pou or NintendogsPeridot is an opportunity for players looking for naive and simple company to adopt a small creature to make their daily lives more rewarding.
Origin of the name and pre-registration at Peridot
Story-wise, Peridot doesn’t dig very far. The Peridots are millennial creatures awakened from their sleep in a world very different from the one in which they lived. Unaccustomed to the 21st century, they will need your full attention to survive. You can then protect their species from extinction for, by ensuring their happiness, your creatures will choose to reproduce and expand your peridots collection.
With this new license, you may be wondering what does the name of the Peridot game mean? The exact term of peridot or chrysolite is a variety of olivine gemstone, a stone with a superb green color. Although it’s hard to see the connection to the game, the bright, light-colored gems are reminiscent of the collectible creatures in this game.
On the other hand, we understand the title better by looking at the side of the concept, with “peri” which means “around / close to” and which completes “dot”, the point generally used in geolocation.
Thereby, the Peridots will soon be all around youand always by your side, because no pet can be closer than the pocket reserved for your smartphone.
You can already pre-register for Peridot from the game’s official website. Peridot release date is not yet known, but we will keep you informed of any news on this subject!
