Livebox 6: release date, price, technical sheet, all about the Orange box
The Livebox 6 is the latest generation of boxes from Orange. Thanks to the arrival of Wi-Fi 6, it finally competes with the devices of competing operators. Release date, price and technical sheet, we tell you everything there is to know about the box.
📅 WHAT IS THE LIVEBOX 6 RELEASE DATE?
Orange has lifted the veil on its new Livebox 6 on April 6, 2022 at an event in Paris. As the leaks had suggested just before the announcement, the new box is available the next day, April 7, 2022, in a new, much more expensive Livebox Max offer. The Livebox 6 is also available in the DROMs (except Mayotte which is not fiber).
💸 WHAT IS THE PRICE OF SUBSCRIPTION, START-UP AND TERMINATION OF LIVEBOX 6?
The new Livebox 6 is only available in the new Livebox Max offer from Orange, which is much more expensive than the other Livebox Fiber and Livebox Up Fiber offers. Orange announces that 78% of French people want better Wi-Fi and that 39% are ready to pay more for it. This represents 58% among those under 35 and 54% among families, so it is not surprising to see the operator increase its prices.
The new Livebox Max subscription is available at 34.99 euros per month for twelve months then will increase to 54.99 euros per month. You can request up to 3 Wi-Fi 6 repeaters and a 4G Airbox offering 20 GB/month for free. The box also comes with the same mini 4K TV decoder as the previous generation.
- Subscription price: €34.99 per month for one year, then €54.99 per month
- Setup fees : 10 euros per equipment (Wi-Fi 6 repeater, TV key), TV decoder at 40 euros
- Termination Fee : 50 €
- Commitment period: 12 months
- Equipment included: mini 4K TV decoder, 20 GB 4G Airbox, up to 3 Wi-Fi repeaters
It should be noted that the new Livebox Max offer is available on ADSL but with livebox 4 and with up to 3 repeaters.
🔛 CAN WE MIGRATE FROM ANOTHER ORANGE BOX TO THE NEW LIVEBOX 6?
As was also the case with the Livebox 5 in 2019, Livebox 6 is offered free of charge when subscribing or migrating to the new Livebox Max Fiber offer. It should also be noted that the migration to this new range, for a customer who already has an internet account with Orange, does not lead to re-engagement.
⚡️ WHAT’S NEW IN LIVEBOX 6?
With its Livebox 6, Orange has finally corrected the biggest flaw of the Livebox 5: the absence of Wi-Fi 6. Better still, the Livebox 6 is not content only with Wi-Fi 6, sinceit is even compatible with the new Wi-Fi 6E standardalready adopted by Bouygues’ Bbox Fibre.
This is therefore excellent news for Orange subscribers, especially since France authorized the use of the standard at the end of 2021 for all French operators. This new generation Wi-Fi 6E brings a major change: the addition of the 6 GHz band, which makes it possible to offer three additional channels to your box. This results in a better connection and 30% better throughput when the network is overloaded. Of course, only your compatible devices will be able to enjoy it.
Thus, this new Livebox 6 delivers a maximum theoretical Wi-Fi speed of 2 Gb/s downlinki.e. 3 times more than with the Livebox 5, and 800 Mb/s up. Orange also announces that it has reduced the latency to 3 ms, which should please gamers. Two sleep modes are available: a light sleep mode that leaves the phone running, and a deeper mode that saves up to 95% power.
This new Livebox 6 offers a major design change: it is placed vertically, while the Livebox 5 rested horizontally. In addition, this is the first Orange box to have a screen on the front. Its particularity: it is not an LCD screen, but aan E-Ink touch screen. This can be put on standby and allows you to find the QR Code to flash to connect to Wi-Fi. On the back, we find 5 Ethernet ports, including 1 at 2.5 Gb/s and 4 at 1 Gb/s.
⚙️ WHAT IS THE TECHNICAL SHEET OF THE LIVEBOX 6?
The Livebox 6 being entirely designed for fiber, it says goodbye to the xDSL module. This was eventually replaced by two RJ11 connectors and two VoIP lines. In terms of connections, the new Orange box has an RJ45 port at 2.5 Gb/s as well as 4 Ethernet ports at 1 Gb/s. Unfortunately, we are therefore still not entitled to a 10 Gb / s port on this generation, unlike the Freebox Delta.
The maximum download speeds and amounts announced are 2 Gb / s and 800 Mb / s in Wi-Fi 6, respectively. The latter can go up to 1 Gb / s for professionals.
🔌 WHAT IS THE LIVEBOX 6 CONNECTION?
The Livebox 6 has a fairly complete connection:
- 1 x 2.5 Gbps Ethernet port
- 4 x 1Gb/s Ethernet ports
- 2 telephone ports (RJ11)
- 1 SFP port (fiber)
- 1 power port (USB type C)
- 1 USB3 port
