MacBook Pro 2021: Magsafe charger bugged on some Apple computers
The 2021 MacBook Pros with 16-inch display are bugged. When the computer is turned off and closed, the MagSafe charger flashes orange, which means that the battery charging is not working. Aware of this bug, Apple offers a temporary solution.
Last October, Apple launched a new generation of MacBook Pro. Among the flagship novelties of this generation, we find the great return of the MagSafe charger. After years of abandonment, Apple has added a magnetic charger to its new high-end computers. This technology prevents a MacBook from ending up on the ground if the user trips over the charging cable.
Unfortunately, it seems that this MagSafe charger suffers from a bug on certain MacBook Pros with 16-inch displays. Machines with a 14-inch screen seem to be spared by this malfunction. On Reddit, several Internet users claim that the LED of the MagSafe 3 connector Sometimes flashes orange, indicating that charging has not started.
Apple offers solutions to circumvent the charger bug of the MacBook Pro 2021
“The LED of the charging cable turns on and off repeatedly and every time it does, you can hear the sound effect (Editor’s note: which announces that the charge is in progress or interrupted)“, testifies a user on Reddit. Apparently this bug is triggered only when the MacBook Pro is being charged while it is off and closed. If the computer is in sleep, on, or open, there is no MagSafe charger bug.
Several users have contacted Apple Support for an explanation. At first, customer service offered a workaround which was to log into the MacBook in recovery mode. This solution did not resolve the concerns for most of the people concerned.

Contacted by users, Apple support then advised to “Charge the computer in sleep mode” or with “The lid open”. For users who absolutely want to turn off the machine while charging the battery, Apple recommends plug in the MagSafe charger before shutting down the computer. Customer service specifies that Apple is aware of this bug and that an investigation has been opened. The Californian firm should correct the situation in a future macOS update.
