MacBook Pro 2021: no HDMI 2.1, Apple is satisfied with an HDMI 2.0 port!
The 2021 MacBook Pros are among the most successful business computers on the market. Unfortunately, the new PCs from Apple ignore the HDMI 2.1 standard. Apple is content to integrate an HDMI 2.0 port to its new machines. We take stock of what changes in use.
The 2021 MacBook Pro are on board a host of new products. Apple computers are notably equipped with powerful M1 Pro / M1 Max processors, MagSafe charging and ProMotion mini-LED displays with an adaptive refresh rate. They also shine by their rich connections, which will especially delight professional users.
On the other hand, the new MacBooks are satisfied with a HDMI 2.0 port. As we can read on the official website of the brand, the technical sheet mentions the presence of a single port capable of supporting a “Display with a resolution of up to 4K at 60 Hz”.
Apple sells a cloth for 25 € to clean the screen of the MacBook Pro, it’s expensive but it has the logo on it!
No 8K for 2021 MacBook Pros
In fact, the high-end flagships of Apple rely on a connection inaugurated in 2013 while a new version of the HDMI standard, HDMI 2.1, appeared in 2017. The HDMI 2.1 standard differs from HDMI 2.0 by allowing support for an external 4K compatible display up to 120 Hz . That’s not all. An HDMI 2.1 port also offers significantly higher flow rates to an HDMI 2.0 port. The latest standard climbs up to 48 Gbps, against 18 Gbps for HDMI 2.0.
We will remember that Apple already has integrated an HDMI 2.1 port to its latest TV box, Apple TV 4K. The firm has also heavily insisted on the presence of this port when announcing the case.
Announced last March, the Apple TV 4K is ready for future display technologies, like the 8K (as well as later, the 10K). This is not the case with the new MacBooks. This is a shame for an ultra high-end computer (the starting price of which exceeds 2000 euros) intended for the most demanding users, likely to connect several screens to it. Will Apple correct the shooting in a next generation? We cross fingers.
