Put on your superhero costume for the release of Marvel Snap on Android, iOS and PCthe collectible card game from Nuverse in the Marvel Universe. We reveal our first impressions of this game with short parts and seemingly very simple gameplay, but more complex than it seems.
Release of Marvel Snap, a dynamic and strategic deck-builder
After a beta last June, today is the release of Marvel Snap on mobile and PC. Highly anticipated by fans of the Marvel universe, this new deck building game is developed by Nuverse, a subsidiary of ByteDance.
In Marvel Snap you have to dial a 12 card deck. Each of them has a summoning cost of 1 to 6, as well as a power value. In addition to these stats, some cards have a special abilitywhich activates when they appear, based on their positioning or in reaction to the opponent.
Although theimproving your superheroes does not increase their stats, it does change their appearance, making the artwork extend beyond the frame, then adding a 3D effect afterwards. Upgrading your cards also increases your collection level and at the same time to unlock new cards.
In battle, some Marvel Snap heroes enjoy a visual effect related to the character, such as a burst of bullets for The Punisher, a laser beam for Cyclops, or reactors under the map for Star-Lord and Iron Man.
Such simple and complex gameplay
If you’re not used to this type of game, but still want to enjoy the Marvel Snap releaseknow that the game is much more accessible than titles such as Hearthstone, Gwent or Legends of Runeterra.
Marvel Snap battles take place in 6 rounds. At the start of the first turn, you have one unit of energy, then an additional unit each turn to place increasingly powerful cards. The playing field offers you to place your superheroes on one of the 3 slots, which depict iconic locations from the Marvel Universe and apply various effects. Be careful though, because you can only ask 4 cards maximum per slot.
At the end of the six rounds, the player who has placed the most power on at least two of the three slots wins the game. However, while the rules are extremely simple, the complexity is being able to playing strategically with abilities of your cards, but also those of the locations, which are revealed during the game.
That’s it for our first impressions of the Marvel Snap release, available for free on iOS, Android and PC since October 18. Even if it will take more hours of play to really realize it, the game seems completely playable in free-to-play. Moreover, the first Free Season Pass allows you to unlock 5 superhero cards : Ant-Man, Colossus, Ironheart, Gamora and Blue Marvel.
