Mazda 2 Hybrid: the Toyota Yaris clone arrives in spring 2022 in Europe
Mazda has just unveiled its Mazda 2 Hybrid based on the Toyota Yaris. It has a fully auto-charging hybrid system and will be sold alongside the regular 2022 Mazda 2 in Europe next spring.
When released in 2022, the Mazda 2 Hybrid will be offered in three trim levels named Pure, Agile and Select. This is the first time that Mazda has offered a fully hybrid model in its European lineup, which includes many mild hybrid models and the fully electric MX-30.
Apart from the Mazda badge, the new Mazda 2 Hybrid looks identical to the hybrid version of the Toyota Yaris hatchback. The cargo volume of 286 liters and the wheelbase of 2,560 mm are identical to those of the Yaris.

What do we know about the technical characteristics of the Mazda 2 Hybrid?
The Mazda 2 Hybrid combines the three-cylinder gasoline engine of the Toyota Yaris with a 59 kW electric motor for a total system power of 85 kW and 114 horsepower. The car could knock down the 0 to 100 km / h in 9.7 seconds and promises a top speed of 175 km / h. In addition, it boasts a fuel consumption of around 3.3 L / 100 km in the WLTP combined cycle and CO2 emissions of 93 to 87 g / km depending on whether you are using 16 or 15 inch rims.
Like the Yaris, it starts automatically in electric mode and can be driven with the main engine turned off for short distances and at low speed. It is also equipped with regenerative braking technology, which will allow it to regain a few kilometers of autonomy.
The vehicle is said to have been awarded up to five stars in the famous Euro NCAP crash test program. The car is therefore as well rated as the Tesla Model 3, which also obtained 5 stars in the same test. The automaker announces that the 2022 Mazda 2 Hybrid will be marketed from spring 2022 in Europe, and that it will be available at regular dealers. It will come directly to compete with the new Peugeot 308 Hybrid, which we had been able to test.
