Mobile Games News Recap | Week of January 17 to 23, 2021
Discover it weekly recap of mobile gaming news on Android and iOS for the week of January 17 to 23, 2021! We let you read all about it below. ⬇️
1️⃣ The week started off with a bang with the release of Awaken: Chaos Era, a mobile game that has been in pre-registration for several months and that many players have been waiting for. Small disappointment on my side since even if the game offers beautiful finishes, this one is based above all on a ultra-classic gacha system who does not hide from wanting to stick to all the codes of the genre. It is done and well done but it sincerely lacks artistic approach or originality.
2️⃣ We promise, we didn’t lie to you last week. As you were told video game’s biggest buyout when Take-Two obtained Zynga for 12.7 billion dollars, this historic event will not have taken long before being dethroned. Less than 10 days later, Microsoft bought Activision Blizzard King for the modest sum of $68.7 billion. This obviously raises questions of Xbox and Game Pass exclusivity for Activision Blizzard licenses like Call of Duty against Sony’s console. Some want to be reassuring and believe that it would not be in Microsoft’s short-term economic interest, while others see it as a drop in Sony’s sales if the latter does not react… which explains the Sony shares fall on the stock market following the takeover announcement. Only the future will tell us.
3️⃣ Notice to lovers of space-time transport phone booths: East Side Games Group signed a partnership with BBC Studios a few days ago for several years in order to offer a worldwide release of Doctor Who mobile on Android and iOS in 2022, free-to-play. Players will find many characters from the series at the heart of an adventure mainly focused on its narration and taking up both iconic episodes and new stories to live with the Doctor.
4️⃣ Good and bad news for TFT. On one side, the Set 6.5 Night Neons prepares for its release with new Hextech augmentations and the notable disappearance of the Student and Imperial traits among the champion classes of set 6 TFT. In exchange, the Hextech and Seducer traits will appear. All the details of TFT patch 6.5 can be found in our dedicated article. On the other side, TFT goes on a crusade against the Vietnamese studio Imba Network. Indeed, this studio has created what obviously appears to be a more than inspired copy of Teamfight Tactics named I Am Hero: AFK Tactical Teamfight. Imba Network thus reaps a trial which seems quite deserved since certain characters like Teemo, here named Tomee, have in I Am Hero descriptions identical to those of TFT, word for word.
5️⃣ If you feel the sea legs at the beginning of the year, go for it pre-register for War for the Seas, a maritime open-world announced by NetEase. Already available on Android for several months, it will be released on February 14 on iOS. You can take part in naval battles, take yourself for a merchant or even maintain relationships with certain characters. The locations of the game take over the real world since you will be able to sail in Africa, Europe or America for example.
6️⃣ The new season of fifa mobile 2022 benefits from expected changes with an improved player market, live commentary in 11 different languages and numerous graphics and gameplay optimizations.
7️⃣ Netflix mobile games have seen their ranks swell since their launch. This time, Arcanium: Rise of Akhan is added to the catalog and offers you to play a card adventure. Gather a team of 3 heroes to save the world of Arzu from destruction in this title mixing roguelike and deckbuilding. As a reminder, Netflix games are currently available with your normal subscription (regardless of the formula) without advertising or additional purchase.
8️⃣ The launch of the Phantom Blade: Executioners closed beta will take place on January 28, 2022. In-game, this gacha with a particular visual style will impose an original combat style with multiple combinations and possibilities as well as a narrative in which the player will have to get involved through difficult decisions. On the test phase side, the Torchlight Infinite beta has already started since January 18.
9️⃣ Board game and RPG, RPG Dice: Heroes of Whitestone releases this week on Android and iOS. Moreover, the launch of this title also marks the entry of WIMO Games (made up of video game industry veterans from companies such as Zynga or EA) in the big leagues since Heroes of Whitestone is their first worldwide release.
🔟 Finally, to conclude this list of weekly news, Feral Interactive, SEGA and Creative Assembly have announced the Total War: Medieval 2 release next spring on Android and iOS. Whether for fans of the license or for budding strategists, this announcement is good news since Feral Interactive is in charge of the mobile port, except we owe them their recent Alien: Mobile Isolation whose quality is undeniable.
