Nothing, the brand of the co-founder of OnePlus, has unveiled its first true wireless headphones. They are called Nothing Ear 1. They are based on a semi-transparent design. Compatible with Bluetooth 5.2, the headphones integrate 11.6 mm speakers and enjoy a battery life of up to 36 hours. Recommended public price: 99 euros.

For the first product of his new start-up, Carl Pei, did not choose to launch a smartphone. Everything led to believe that he would opt for this solution. Co-founder of OnePlus. Acquirer of Essential, Andy Rubin’s last company (known to be the originator of Android). And yet, he prefers to do the opposite: throw an accessory first. This is not lacking in originality.

We already know this product. Indeed, Nothing expertly orchestrated the launch of its first product with a long viral campaign. Just last week, we reported in our columns the images broadcast by the brand on its case, as well as some details about it. So we knew the product would be called Nothing Ear 1 and that it would betrue wireless headphones. It remained to know the whole proposal.

Nothing Ear 1: a bold design and a complete technical sheet

As agreed, it is today Tuesday July 27 that Nothing had planned to present its headphones. So we know all the technical and physical details. And the appearance is important here, since the headphones and their case have a design where some parts are transparent. Certainly an allusion to the name of the company. They are also splash-proof.

On the technical side, each earphone weighs 4.7 grams. It incorporates a speaker of 11.6 mm exactly, with a graphene membrane, three microphones including two for active noise reduction, a customizable touch key and a battery so the capacity is not specified. However, we know that of the box battery: 570 mAh.

We also know that autonomy is 5.7 hours for headphones and 34 hours for headphones and charging case. Count 25% less with active noise reduction. The box is charged with a USB type-C cable or a Qi wireless charger.

Nothing has developed a complete application for its headphones

Nothing Ear 1 connects to a smartphone through a connection Bluetooth 5.2 and an Android and iOS compatible application. This app lets you customize the touch key, access an equalizer, enable and customize active noise reduction, and locate headphones if they are lost (like Apple’s AirPods). They are able to detect whether they are worn in the ear or not.

The Nothing Ear 1 are therefore complete headphones. Their price, already known, is quite aggressive: 99 euros. They will be on sale in 45 countries, including France, from August 17, 2021 on the brand site. A flash sale will also be organized on July 31.
