Release of Octopath Traveler: Champions of the Continent
After the success of the Nintendo Switch version of Octopath Traveler, Square Enix has just announced the release of Octopath Traveler: Champions of the Continent on Android and iOS. Let’s go back to our first impressions of this JRPG with a retro design, but which incorporates modern mechanics adapted to mobile support.
The release of Octopath Traveler: Champions of the Continent on Android and iOS
The release of Octopath Traveler: Champions of the Continent on mobile offers a game that mixes Traditional RPG with more modern gacha mechanics. This title is not a port of the original game, but a brand new exclusive adventurewhich is a prequel to the Switch game in which we find certain characters.
After a long introduction to recontextualize the lore of the license, we are asked to choose between three cards. They represent the three major factions of Orsterrawhich are each associated with a value: wealth, power and popularity.
By improving your rank in the three factions, you earn rewards like rubies or stat bonuses. If your rank is high enough, it can also allow you to get information from NPCs.
Fans of the game on Switch will be delighted to find the same pixel art graphicswith very neat 3D decorations.
Mobile-friendly gameplay and economy system
With the release of Octopath Traveler: Champions of the Continent, we discover a classic RPG game system. You need to complete missions to get rewards and experience to improve your heroes stats.
Movements are automated. Simply slide your finger in a direction or directly select a destination if you have already reached it before. While moving, you can be attacked at any time.
To prepare for battle, you must compose your teamwhich can go up to eight fighters. You will have to unlock characters by using Rubies in particular. Each of them has a rarity level of one to five stars and some can earn an additional one by gaining experience.
Small black dot for non-English speakers, there is no option to change the language and the subtitles are only in english. This can be very disturbing, because the game has long phases of narration as well as choices in the dialogues.
That’s it for our first impressions of the release of Octopath Traveler: Champions of the Continent.
