Some Google Pixel 4a crack for no reason, buyers are angry
According to many reports, the shell of some Pixel 4a begins to crack for no apparent reason at the top right or left corners. Complaints are starting to multiply on the web, and Google remains unanswered for the moment.
Presented in August 2020 and available in France since October 1, 2020, the Pixel 4a quickly established itself as an excellent photophone, accessible in addition since offered at only 349 €. To reach this price, Google had to make concessions, in particular by using polycarbonate, a premium plastic material, to design the shell of the device. Despite everything, this plastic coating remains in all cases less fragile than glass.
Imagine the surprise of several users, who noticed the appearance of cracks at the lower and upper right or left corners of their device. Indeed, the number of testimonials for this problem are starting to multiply on Reddit and on the manufacturer’s forums. Note that all users assure that their smartphone has not fallen recently.

Pixel 4a shell cracks for no reason, Google remains silent
“I just took my phone out of its case to clean it and found that the top right corner is cracked, the phone hasn’t fallen for three months. There is no crack on the screen either. Google says there is no warranty that covers this and that it will have to go for repair at my expense. I can’t understand how a plastic shell can crack without falling ”, explains the owner of a Pixel 4a on Reddit.
Like this user, many have chosen to go to Google repair centers to be told that physical damage is not covered by the manufacturer’s warranty. Even worse, some have seen their warranty simply void.
Looking through the various reports, we notice that all the complaints date back to this year. In other words, it suggests that batches with this damage were produced this year and still managed to find their way to users. Has there been negligence on the side of Google’s quality control? The question remains open, for lack of an official statement from the Mountain View firm. Finally, note that similar problems were not observed on the Pixel 4a 5G.
