Telegram is stronger than WhatsApp by offering video conferences to 50 people
Telegram is catching up and burying the competition by integrating videoconferences to 50 people. The instant messaging created by Pavel Durov notably exceeds the offer of WhatsApp, which offers group video calls limited to 8 participants only.
On this Friday, April 30, 2021, Telegram drives the point home by announcing upcoming arrival of group video calls, a feature hitherto absent from the messaging system founded by Pavel Durov. “We will add a video dimension to our voice chats in May 2021, making Telegram a powerful platform for group video calls ”, writes the billionaire on his official Telegram channel.
“Screen sharing, encryption, ambient noise cancellation, desktop and tablet support, everything you could expect from a modern video conferencing tool, but with a level user interface, speed and encryption Telegram. Stay tuned”, adds the creator of Telegram.
Telegram catches up with the competition
In the area of group video calls, Telegram lagged behind the competition like WhatsApp, Zoom or even Skype and Microsoft Teams. After leaving the field open for several months to its rivals in this key area, especially since the popularization of teleworking, Telegram is therefore attacking in force by offering videoconferences for a maximum of 50 people. That is a much larger number of participants than what WhatsApp offers, with only 8 users.
And if Zoom offers video chats to 100 people, Telegram could go looking for this adversary on a ground that is dear to it: security. Telegram has forged its image and reputation around its end-to-end encryption system, which prevents any external intrusion into your communications.
However, Zoom has regularly made the headlines due to serious security concerns. In April 2021, Zoom fell victim to a series of vulnerabilities that allowed a hacker to gain full access to your PC. With the promise of providing such strong security on its group video calls, Telegram may well appeal to Zoom users, worried after these multiple setbacks.
