The iPhone 15 would finally be compatible with the Wi-Fi 6E standard, years after Android

by mobailee January 26, 2023 21

The iPhone 14s are still lagging behind their competitors, since they are not compatible with the latest Wi-Fi 6E standard. However, that may well change on the next generation.

While most high-end Android smartphones are already compatible with the new Wi-Fi 6E standard, the newer iPhone 14s are still limited to Wi-Fi 6. Apple is historically always very slow when it comes to adopting new technologiesbut Wi-Fi 6E is nevertheless present in other devices of the company.

Indeed, in an official support document dedicated to the latest Wi-Fi standard, Apple specifies that many of its devices are compatible. We find in particular the iPad Pro 11 inches of 4e generation and the 12.9-inch iPad Pro from 6e generation, both of which launched late last year. The list was most recently rounded out with the all-new 2023 Mac mini, 2023 14-inch MacBook Pro, and 2023 16-inch MacBook Pro, powered by their M2 Pro and M2 Max chips.

The iPhone 15 would be Apple’s first Wi-Fi 6E-enabled smartphone

Barclays analysts Blayne Curtis and Tom O’Malley have shared a research note, seen by MacRumors, which posits that Apple will add Wi-Fi 6E support to its upcoming iPhone 15 line. given Apple’s lag behind its competitors, but it will indeed be a welcome improvement for all users.

For those who don’t know, Wi-Fi 6E provides a faster, more reliable connection at greater range than Wi-Fi 6. In addition to working on the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands, it is also capable of working on the 6 GHz band. For this, you obviously need a Wi-Fi 6E compatible router, but most operators in France now offer it in their offers.

Unfortunately, despite the arrival of Wi-Fi 6E in its smartphones, Apple may well not catch up with its competitors. Most are already gearing up to adopt the brand new standard Wi-Fi 7 in their high-end Android smartphones, which offers much more impressive speeds than what we know today. It will therefore probably take several years for Apple to catch up.
