TousAntiCovid: how to prevent the application from spying on you?
TousAntiCovid has been collecting statistics for several months in order to assess its effectiveness. According to a recent survey, this system puts users’ privacy at risk. To prevent the contact tracing application from taking over your data, it is possible to deactivate the functionality. We explain how to do this by simply going to the settings of the mobile application.
During the month of June 2021, TousAntiCovid equipped itself with a new system for collecting statistics. According to an in-depth survey carried out by a trio of researchers, this system aimed at evaluating the effectiveness of the application puts users’ privacy at risk. In addition, this system has been automatically activated without asking for user feedback.
According to the investigation report, “The statistics include a very detailed event log, which records most of the actions taken by the user”. By crossing this data with other information collected through TousAntiCovid, it is possible to determine that a user of TousAntiCovid went to have a drink, or to eat in a restaurant, with another, and toidentify a user. Concretely, the personal data obtained by the app make it possible to deduce certain information and to identify social links between users.
