VLC 3.4: the Android app updates with a new interface for the audio player

While the deployment of version 4.0 of VLC is still expected in 2021, the developers of VideoLan continue to regularly update the Android application of their famous media player. And after correcting the automatic update bugs with the previous patch, the VideoLan teams are making some welcome improvements via this version 3.4 of VLC for Android.

Let’s start with the major addition of this new version: the integration of bookmarks, or bookmarks if you prefer. As with your favorite book, they allow you to resume playing any media content from where you left off when exiting the app. Useful if you are used to listening to long content like podcasts or audiobooks on VLC. No need to remember timecode anymore, bookmarks are there to do it for you by showing directly on the reading progress bar.

VLC for Android gets a makeover

Then, we note a discreet redesign of audio player interface, which also incorporates some elements of that of Google Play Music. There is thus a larger section devoted to the illustrations of the albums, the aim being to display your content in the center of the screen. The listing of videos is also clearer, with larger miniatures for more readability. In addition, the developers announce that it is now possible to use VLC for Android without having to grant access to the internal files of your smartphone. Good news for those who use the app only to watch streams, for example.

The developers then thought about new users. Indeed, they will now be able to enjoy a tutorial that will guide them step by step in their discovery of the VLC application for Android. Special mention to the section dedicated to gesture controls, which will allow users to avoid improper handling. At last, the navigation of the application on Android Auto has been completely redesigned, to make the experience smoother and more intuitive, in particular to find and select your audio tracks.
