Pixel Watch: workable versions of Gmail and Calendar are finally coming to Wear OS
Until now, Gmail and Calendar did not offer a satisfactory experience on Wear OS. Google is about to change that, first on its Pixel Watch, and then on all Android smartwatches.
Google’s Pixel Watch and smartwatches in general aren’t really devices designed for checking email or being productive. This is undoubtedly the reason why Google does not yet offer workable versions of Gmail and Google Calendar on Wear OS. According to information revealed by 9 To 5 Google, the Mountain View firm would work to fill this gap.

To better prepare for the arrival of its first smartwatch, Google has taken care to design specific versions of many of its applications. Owners of Pixel Watch or connected watches running Wear OS can thus trigger the Camera of their smartphone remotely using a dedicated app, or consult their shopping list on Google Keep with Material You sauce. The experience with Gmail or Calendar was much more disappointing until now. Both services offer features so limited that they are practically useless. Agenda does not allow you to interact with your online calendar, and Gmail on Wear OS is just a notification panel.
Google is working on full versions of Gmail and Calendar for Android smartwatches
If Google first optimizes Gmail and Calendar on its Pixel Watch, all watches running Wear OS will ultimately benefit. According to the company, both services will finally offer a complete experience, which suggests that it will be possible to write an email and send it in Gmail, or to create and/or modify events in Calendar. Adapting such complex applications to a watch is not easy, we understand that, because the physical and material constraints are numerous.
Connected watches are indeed not the ideal accessories for so-called “productive” tasks. Beyond displaying the time, their primary mission is to offer sports and health applications: areas in which the Pixel Watch has not been entirely satisfactory. If the Pixel Watch offers a heart rate monitor or a GPS, it lacks the many features that make Fitbit bracelets attractive. No details have leaked out about the availability of new versions of Gmail and Calendar on Wear OS.
